Joshua Morrison
High School Band Director
Joshua Morrison has been King George High School’s Director of Bands since 2022. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 2019 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Percussion Performance and earned a Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum, and Instruction from Virginia Tech in 2020. Joshua Previously served as Director of Bands at Rural Retreat Middle and High School.
King George Concert and Jazz Bands consistently receive Superior ratings at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s Association State Assessment. Mr. Morrison directs the King George Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Marching Royal Regiment, Percussion Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and the Pit Orchestra.
Mr. Morrison has performed at the College Band Director’s National Association Conference, Virginia Music Educators Association Conference, University of South Florida Percussion Festival, and at Carnegie Hall.
Mr. Morrison grew up in Stafford, Virginia where he attended Brooke Point High School. His two most important jobs are being a loving husband and father to his wife Antonia and his son Hayden.

Kevin Cheatham
Middle School Band Director/KGHS Assistant Director
Mr. Cheatham is in his 11th year of teaching at King George Middle School where he serves as the Director of Bands and as an Assistant Director of the King George High School Royal Regiment Marching Band. Mr. Cheatham graduated cum laude from Virginia Tech in 2014 and again in 2015. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Music Education and Trumpet Performance, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction. These degrees were supervised by Dr. Vernon Burnsed, Dr. Jason Crafton, and Dr. Kelly Parkes, respectively.
Mr. Cheatham was the 2015 recipient of the "Most Outstanding Student in Music Education" award from the Virginia Tech School of Education. He was selected to present at the 2017 Virginia Music Educators Association conference, sharing a clinic entitled “A Classical Approach to Jazz Ensemble Pedagogy.” He was also selected as the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year for King George Middle School. King George County has been recognized as a NAMM Best Communities for Music Education District for the last 7 years, and the groups that Mr. Cheatham lead consistently receive Superior ratings at VBODA State Assessment. Mr. Cheatham has performed in several prestigious venues including The Jefferson Center in Roanoke, VA, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., and Carnegie Hall in New York City. He was also a featured soloist at the 2021 Virginia Tech Trumpet Festival and can be heard on the Virginia Tech Jazz Ensemble's 2014 album entitled Another Reason to Celebrate.
Mr. Cheatham currently resides in Fredericksburg, Virginia where he is a member of the Fredericksburg Concert Band, the FCB Brass Quintet, and also plays other assorted engagements throughout the area. He lives with his lovely wife, Deanna, his adorable daughter, Willow, and his spunky dog, Nora.
